Roll & Play Press is an independent publishing house that creates guides and content for fantasy tabletop RPGs, empowering players to unlock their own creativity and have fun. Founders Kay & Sam went from lockdown start-up to respected scale-up in the space of just a couple of years. Beginning on Kickstarter with a handy guidebook to help game masters run their sessions more easily, the team now produces a variety of guides and content to assist players of all levels, from newcomers to veterans.

Because of Roll & Play Press’s rapid expansion in such a short period, they needed to significantly enhance their branding and website to showcase their quality products and the professional business they had become. Deuce Studio was tasked with revitalising how R&P presents itself, adding greater weight to the brand while staying true to the independent spirit at its core.

We began the branding and web design project by immersing ourselves in the world of RPGs, joining the team for a game of Dungeons and Dragons and experiencing their products firsthand. Through this process, along with in-depth conversations with the founders, we conducted a thorough brand strategy, defining the company’s core values and how R&P wants to be perceived. Moving into the creative phase, we explored various concepts.

We replaced the existing orange with shades of teal to stand out from a market dominated by warm reds and blacks. We also chose to retain the dice shape that R&P has become known for, while steering the rest of the brand into a more dynamic and enchanting direction.

We designed a monogram as a quick visual identifier and for ease of use on applications like book spines. The shape of the monogram is inspired by the silhouette of the 20-sided dice (or icosahedron), which became the central element of the entire brand identity. The dice serve as a symbol of new worlds, representing R&P’s imaginative, limitless content—literally opening into mythological landscapes or acting as portals for fantastical characters. Functionally, the dice can also hold text or serve as button styles within digital applications.

We developed and built an e-commerce website, introducing new functionalities while integrating updated brand elements throughout to ensure a smooth and seamless experience for visitors, making it simple for them to find the right product. Additionally, we helped design other assets, such as delivery packaging sent to customers, to inspire and encourage them to explore new worlds.
